God Loves Kids began in 1974 with a handful of Calcutta street kids. Moved by compassion on a mission’s trip to India, Rev. Syvelle and Lovie Phillips "adopted" a few children from a friends’ ministry. Taking their photographs and brief histories home to California, the Phillips hoped to find a few people from among Pastor Phillips’ radio listeners to sponsor these children for $10 a month. The response was overwhelming. A dozen children turned into a score, and then half a hundred. The ministry has continued to grow.
Many of the originally sponsored children have grown up to work in the ministry themselves. God Loves Kids now supports over 1600 children and many national pastor’s families in 14 locations. Lovie Phillips still oversees the day to day administration of the ministry and travels frequently to visit the orphanages and schools.
